As a huge basketball fan, I wanted to change things up a little bit with this week’s FLIGHT. 🛫

I am taking the opportunity to write about someone who I don’t know personally and found their Opportunity Story worth sharing with you to inspire action and remind you that anything is possible with the right MINDSET… 🤯

This one is about someone who was a complete unknown and made his way to the spotlight in an INCREDIBLE fashion.

The epitome of BURSTING ON THE SCENE. 💥

With the NBA Finals coming to a close soon, I couldn’t help but remember the NBA Dunk Contest from earlier this year. 🏀

Do you ever watch it? I don’t blame you if not. 😏 It USED to be awesome.

I definitely miss the days of MJ jumping from the free throw line, or Vince Carter hanging from his elbow (arguably the GOAT 🐐 of all dunkers), or even Aaron Gordon’s mascot 👹 leap was pretty sweet in 2016 too! Click for Blast from the Past

Lately though… It’s been pretty FREAKING boring….

Unnnttttiiiiiiiillll…. February 18th, 2023!!

OMG, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!! 😱

This year we were in for an INCREDIBLE SURPRISE!  

A NOBODY, named Mac McClung STOLE THE SHOW!!! 👏👏

WHO?

THIS GUY 👇

Dunk after Dunk, we were left mesmerized. 🤩 Each one more incredible than the one before, scoring a max 50 points on 3 out of the 4 and the other was a measly 49.

He was the shortest player to record a PERFECT score on at least 3 dunks since 1986…

What’s even crazier…. HE NAILED EACH DUNK ON THE FIRST TRY! 😲

Pretty sure, that’s unheard of, so I had to find out who this DUDE was and how he got to this stage…

A 6’2” kid from Gate City, VA, now 24 years old, starting dunking as a Sophomore in High School. While there, he broke all sorts of Virginia public school records and was recruited to play College ball at Georgetown.

He was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team, but after injury in his second year, he transferred to Texas Tech for his third year of College.

After college, he went undrafted in the NBA, signed 10 day contracts with a couple teams, but ultimately spent most of the last few years in the G-League. Which is the NBA’s developmental league…

The coolest thing about this guy is against all odds, he NEVER gave up his dreams of being in the NBA and just kept working and competing.

He showed out at the NBA Draft Combine in 2021 with a vertical jump of 43.5 inches. 🦘

That was the seventh-highest mark recorded in NBA Combine history. 😱

He was also named G-League Rookie of the Year… 👏

Suffice to say, he was a pretty damn good basketball player compared to the average Joe… 👊

According to this article: Click Here! There was a time, when he visited the Washington Wizards with his Georgetown teammates, and his mom said, “Hey, why don’t you get a picture with John Wall?” and Mac said, “I’m one of them – I’m not doing that.”

In his eyes, he had already belonged.

I FREAKING LOVE THAT MINDSET.

Here is the timeline of this guy’s incredible 5-Day stretch in February, 2023.

• February 14th - Signs Two-Way Contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.

• February 18th - Out of NOWHERE, he WINS the NBA Dunk Contest!😎

• February 19th - Mac signs an endorsement deal with PUMA. 😲

During his TNT interview afterward, Mac said, “I’m truly blessed and grateful to the NBA for giving me this opportunity. I think the biggest thing is manifestation. I don’t get surprised by things like this, but I am very appreciative.”.

McClung played the final two regular season games with the Sixers and in the season finale, he went on to put up 20 points against the Brooklyn Nets. 💪

As a two-way contract player, he was ineligible to participate in the NBA playoffs, so he went back down to the G-League to continue playing for Delaware Blue Coats. And guess what happened there…

Oh you know… he just helped his team win the 2023 G League title. 👊

He put up 35 points in Game 1 of the G League Finals and stayed hot with 30 in Game 2, to clinch the Championship. 🏆

Dude is simply a WINNER. 

This, my friends, is what being DRIVEN looks like.

The I DON’T CARE what others think of me, I KNOW MY WORTH Mentality.

History tells us, that Mac was NOT supposed to be in the Dunk Contest, let alone WIN THE DAMN THING. 🤩🏆

But he was and HE DID… Because he believed in himself.

He had faith in his potential and worked extremely hard quietly behind the scenes, until it was his time to shine.

He got his opportunity and he took advantage of it.

He leveraged his skills and his mindset to GO ALL IN, and challenged himself with a spotlight that was far above and away the biggest stage of his life.

He didn’t shy away.

He manifested it and visualized the moment.

He was ready for it.

He KNEW what he would bring and he BROUGHT IT. 💪

That’s Confidence. 😉

That’s Preparation. 🤓

That’s going after your DREAMS. 🤩

And you can do the same! 👍

Stop talking about what you’re going to do.

VISUALIZE IT… 👀

…PREPARE… 📝

…TAKE ACTION. 🎬

Define what it is you want, and when your opportunity arrives, be ready to GO ALL IN.
