New phone...

...who dis?!

Hi.

I’ve decided to make some changes to the Storybook.

First of all, I’ve updated the color theme and overall look and feel to be more in line with the OPPO FLOW brand.

Secondly, these weekly writeups will be much shorter and cleaner.

Like a quick flight from PHX to Vegas, but still enough time to set the tone for a nice lil’ weekend. 🥂

Moving forward…

600 words max to get straight to the point and on with your day.

Each week, I will provide…

  • a definition 🤓

  • a quick story 📖

  • a mindset shift 🤯

  • an opportunity list 💡

Here’s the updated format…

STORY - noun

an account of imaginary, or real people and events told for entertainment

Telling a STORY is the number one way to relate and build relationships.

It develops trust, familiarity, and likeability.

With stories people feel emotions, and customers buy.

When your story hits, they feel closer to you and think about you more.

Use short and simple descriptive words to paint the picture.

Set the scene.

  • Who is the hero?

  • Who is the guide helping the hero?

  • What problem is the hero facing?

  • What are the stakes if not resolved?

  • How does it end?

A hero, who wants something, encounters a problem.

Before they can get what they want, and at the peak of their despair, a guide steps into their lives and gives them a plan that calls them to action.

That action helps them avoid failure and end in success.

That’s it.

That’s the foundation of every great story that drives interest and emotion.

It keeps people engaged.

🤯 THE MINDSET SHIFT 🤯

The best brands tell great stories to gain and retain customers.

The most successful people tell great stories to gain and retain relationships.

The hero is the customer or relationship and the guide is the business or person assisting them in finding their way.

You are not the hero; they are.

The hero needs or wants your product, service, or advice, but they may not know it yet.

A good story brings clarity to what the hero really wants, and makes them feel like it’s their idea.

But since they don’t know how to get it, the guide (you) steps in to give them a plan for achieving it.

Let’s say…

You own a local ice cream shop in Phoenix, Arizona and want to share a video on social media to bring in more customers.

Instead of listing out all the flavors you can choose from, showcasing the inside of your shop, and raving about how your ice cream is the best…

Share this story instead…

After a sweltering little league baseball game during the hot summer months, a local family left the field drenched in sweat.

Little Timmy noticed a bright neon sign, that read “Sun’s ablaze; Cool your days!” and suggested ice cream, to which they all eagerly agreed.

Soon, they were laughing and sharing stories over scoops of cold, creamy delight, and the heat forgotten as they enjoyed the perfect end to their day.

HERO = Little Timmy

GUIDE = Ice cream shop

PROBLEM = Hot and sweaty

STAKES = Being uncomfortable

RESOLUTION = Cool down with delicious ice cream

ENDING = Family bonding and happiness
