Enjoy your vacay, but...

...don't leave this at home

Welcome to the Storybook

Each week, I share… ✍️

  • a definition 🤓

  • a quick story 📖

  • a mindset shift 🤯

  • an opportunity list 💡

CONSISTENT adjective

acting or done in the same way over time, especially so as to be fair or accurate

I’ve been able to unplug this week. 🏝️

Hanging out on the beautiful beaches of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico enjoying some delicious food, plenty of relaxation, and good ol’ family time.

We made a point to really enjoy ourselves without too much tech and creating a lot of bonding moments.

Here’s a few of the highlights so far…

  • My 15 year old nephew beat me in a 100 yard beach dash. ‍🏃

(I’m just grateful I didn’t rupture an Achilles or tear my hammy)

  • My 12 year old son reeled in a Mahi Mahi nearly as big as him. 🐠

    (Fish tacos anyone?)

  • We celebrated my wife’s birthday with a boat cruise. 🥳

(Cheers to the last year of our 30s!)

I also hit the gym a few times this week and it’s only Thursday.

Wait… the gym?

While on vacation?

The old me would have laughed, but I’ve developed some strong healthy habits over the last couple of years and this is the type of trip that derails some of that progress.

It’s not easy keeping up with the routine while on vacation, but I have learned from past trips, that if I’m coming home saying “I need a vacation from my vacation”, then I didn’t really enjoy a vacation at all.

There’s only one way to ensure you come back from your trip refreshed, and ready to get back after it in the real world.

🤯 THE MINDSET SHIFT 🤯

Remain CONSISTENT with your regular at home habits.

When you’re on a path of growth and excellence, you’ve got to be fair to yourself and your progress.

This doesn’t mean you can’t have any fun or shouldn’t sleep in every day, with maybe a nap or two along the way.

Getting some extra ZZZ’s is probably exactly what you need during this break.

It just means don’t skip the things that help you stay on track at home, or indulge in too many things that will throw you off track, just because you’re in a different environment.

Pick your spots to keep up with your routine.

I may not have woken up at 5:30am to get my workout in at 6:15am like normal, but I still made it a priority to get in the gym.

I also kept the alcohol intake to a minimum in order to remain clear headed, and charged up for the next day.

Still got in some quick morning meditation, breathwork, and intention setting to set the tone for the day.

Nothing wavered.

Habits remained.

Routine intact.

When you’ve achieved an identity shift…

…enjoy your vacay, but…

…don’t leave home without your CONSISTENCY.

💡 AN OPPORTUNITY LIST 💡

a short list of ideas, learnings, recommendations, or happenings for the week

  1. Plan an adventure. Then plan another one. Adventure drives happiness.

  2. Puerto Vallarta was a relatively unknown fishing village, until after the 1964 film The Night of the Iguana, when it became a glamorous beach destination for visitors across the globe.

As always, please reply to this email with your thoughts, questions, or future topics ideas. I read every email and love seeing your feedback.

Opportunity is Everywhere!

Cheers, Steven
