WIN OR LEARN: verb

an aspect of a growth mindset that allows you to learn from your mistakes or failures

Winning is what everyone wants.

  • Win the day.

  • Win the task.

  • Win the game.

  • Win the business.

Winning breeds excitement, energy, and confidence.

Winning is success. Winning is fun.

Small wins add up to big wins and big wins add up to… well…

…whatever it is you want out of life.

When you win consistently, it’s exhilarating.

The opportunity alone is motivating.

But the question is…

Are you willing to do what it takes to win?

You can’t win long term… unless…

You put in the work through action.

You prepare for the opportunity to win.

You experience loss, mistakes, or failures.

Wait…

Failure is required to win?

🤯 THE MINDSET SHIFT 🤯

Nelson Mandela said, “I never lose. I either win or I learn.”

This profound statement is exactly what embodies a growth mindset.

There’s no such thing as failure, if you just tweak your perspective a little bit.

Making a mistake, losing the game, or failing at a new challenge are all a part of life, and winning requires it.

Embrace losing for what it is.

A learning opportunity.

An opportunity to get better.

An opportunity to pivot, and find another way forward.

An opportunity to try again with more knowledge than you had before.

There are two reasons why you fail when going after a win.

  1. You don’t care or you’re not trying hard enough.

  2. You’re challenging yourself on purpose.

Always make sure failure, is because of the latter.

If you make the decision to go for something, go all in.

Find out what you’re capable of.

Leverage your preparation, skills, and relationships to help you win.

Reflecting on the failures or mistakes you endured in getting that win, gives the opportunity to learn and grow.

Winning is temporary and it shouldn’t stop after reaching that victory.

There will always be new challenges to maintain your current level, and even more so, to reach the next one.

It will take continual dedication, focus, and improvement to consistently win.

It’s your losses, not your wins, that provide the strength and experience to become resilient for future challenges as you strive for more wins.

The most successful people don’t stop at the first sign of huge success.

They haven’t made it at that point.

In fact, they never “make it”.

When they achieve their goals, they identify new ones that keep them going.

And inevitably, they will fail again along the way.

This is preparation for when life throws you curveballs…

…and when that happens, you’ll be ready to hit home runs.

If you don’t win, learn.

And that’s how you never lose.

💡 AN OPPORTUNITY LIST 💡

a short list of ideas, learnings, recommendations, or happenings for the week

Did you know?! The Caribbean Box jellyfish can be trained to learn to spot and dodge obstacles, demonstrating that, these animals can learn from past experiences and they don’t even have a centralized brain. If they can win or learn, so can you. 😉

The candid conversation explores the concept of resistance versus intuition when pursuing a goal. It delves into the struggle of determining whether to push through the challenges or pivot and change direction. We discuss the importance of running towards what you want and away from what you don't want, and how this mindset can drive motivation. We also touch on the idea of fear being a good sign and an indicator of what needs to be done. The conversation concludes with a discussion on the benefits of physical activities like jiu-jitsu and basketball as productive escapism.
