BOREDOM: noun

the state of being bored; feeling unhappy because something is not interesting or because you have nothing to do, or showing that you feel like this

My kids haven been on winter break these last few weeks and they loved every bit of hanging with family during the holidays, enjoying sleepovers with friends, watching a million movies, and just chillin’ for the last few weeks.

There were days though where both my wife and I had to work, and they would find themselves BORED.

My 12 year old son; he’s an operator.

A hard worker and looks for direction.

Give him a job and he’ll see it through, while also doing it well.

So my wife would send him a text message in between her patient appointments with ideas and activities for him to work on.

Things like chores around the house (which he surprisingly gets really excited about; I told you he’s a worker), shooting hoops out front, or hitting baseballs off the tee in the backyard.

Things that continue adding to his work ethic

My 10 year old daughter on the other hand, is super independent and has an incredible imagination.

She has mastered how to handle BOREDOM through her creativity.

She spent an entire day perfecting a free handed candy cane, with a bow and shadowing, without tracing or copying from another picture (which, according to her, and I agree, is harder than you think because the width of the candy cane must be consistent throughout).

Pretty good for a 10 year old, eh?!

Both kids had a great winter break and were busy throughout, but that didn’t come without a little BOREDOM along the way…

…and this got me thinking…

BOREDOM, I think, is a good thing.

With the right mindset, BOREDOM fosters imagination, creativity, and opportunity.

As long as…

…the time spent during this state is leveraged for positive action and accomplishment.

🤯 THE MINDSET SHIFT 🤯

I’ll let you in on a little secret…

Being BORED is exactly how so many successful people become successful.

Rather than doing nothing and letting time pass them by with junk filled - brainless activity, they take the opportunity to work on these three things…

  • MOVE - Get outside for a walk or bike ride, hit the gym, or go on a hike. Physical activity provides you with long lasting energy throughout the entire day and brings mental clarity for new ideas.

    • If you’re BORED… move your body.

  • BUILD - Write, cultivate a new business idea, or plan an adventure. Creativity helps you get into a state of flow and with flow, time dilates. Ending the day with accomplishment, brings excitement for what’s to come.

    • If you’re BORED… build your future.

  • LEARN - Read a book, listen to a podcast, or research a new idea, topic, or skill. Consistent growth and knowledge helps you uncover new possibilities and passions.

    • If you’re BORED… learn something new.

They all complement each other and compound for future accomplishment.

MOVE. BUILD. LEARN.

Put your focus on those three things…

…you’ll never feel BORED again.

💡 AN OPPORTUNITY LIST 💡

a short list of ideas, learnings, recommendations, or happenings for the week

  1. Your challenge this week:
Write down one thing you can do to MOVE your body, one thing you can do to BUILD the life you want, and one thing you can LEARN more about. Then go attack all three of those things.

As always, please reply to this email with your thoughts, questions, future topics you want to learn more about, or if I can be a resource for you in any way.

Opportunity is Everywhere!
